Free Gerlach

May 7, 2009 – 12:03 am

The “Free” days were some of the best times (Early 90s). My first ‘pro’ advertisement came in the form of an ad for Surfer Magazine of Brad Gerlach (photo by Steve Sherman) doing a powerslide barefoot somewhere in La Costa. I did this ad on an old Mac IIci that had past through the hands of Ken Block (DC Shoes), and Ted Newsome (TWS / American Misfits) before it reached me. Not knowing too much about color correction, and limited use of Photoshop at the time, I ended up ‘posterizing’ the image to try and give it an old look – kinda blew it out, but without running a proof due to limited funds, it’s what we got! Thanks Ando for giving me the chance to get started!

Sketchy

May 6, 2009 – 12:14 am

Did this sketch a while back, not traced. I used to draw a bit more before I started pecking at a keyboard. Gotta get back to it some day before the arthritis kicks in.

Peligro

April 13, 2009 – 10:29 am

Driving across the US / Mexico border yesterday, I saw this tagging on a wall while waiting to go through customs. Kind of says something about the state of things in Mexico right now, although it’s actually not as bad as the media describes it. Even posting this photo can lead to the hype around the dangers of travelling south of the border.
